The Gretta Stanger Center (formerly known as the Women's Center) works to provide education about how gender impacts all our lives and resources for belonging for all. We’re a small office and we partner with student clubs, academic departments and administrative units across campus to provide education and resources.
Your support directly contributes to student success. Our main goals this year are to raise money toward the Gretta Stanger Gallery and the Period Poverty Drive. You can also choose to give to the Gretta Stanger Center to have your money go toward the other options below.
Period Poverty Drive:
• Provide sustainable menstrual supplies. 1 in 5 first generation college students report experiencing period poverty, forcing them to chose between food and menstrual hygiene or resort to missing class or work. In the U.S., In the United States, more than 4 in 5 teens have either missed class time or know someone who missed class time because they did not have access to period products. Providing these supplies help to keep people who bleed in class and their education on track.Gretta Stanger Gallery:
• Since 2022, we have awarded the Gretta Stanger Center Exhibition Awards to student artists whose artwork reflects our mission. Each semester, the winner's artwork will be on display in our gallery space at the center (RUC 339). Stop by anytime during our office hours to admire our currently featured artist's work.
Gretta Stanger Center:
• Help LGBTQIA+ students see themselves in books and popular culture. We’re expanding our book collection featuring stories centering diverse characters so students of all backgrounds and identities can envision positive futures and relationships for themselves.
• Support student art that investigates gender equity. We just started exhibition awards for student artists whose work relates to the GSC mission. Our cash prizes are 100% donor-supported. Sponsor a student artist with your gift.
• Encourage students’ intellectual and creative publications through Attune. We feature critical articles and creative work from students of all disciplines, and students develop skills as designers and editors as they produce the journal.
• Sponsor student participation in leadership opportunities. The GSC pays conference fees for students to attend the College of Business Women’s Leadership Conference and the Women in Higher Education conference each year.
• Help us engage student clubs. We regularly work with the Peer Empowerment Program, Lambda GSA, All Ladies in Civil Engineering, the women’s residence hall, and Greek life to name a few, hosting events and educational sessions on things like pronoun use, breast self-exams, and sexual violence prevention.
